An amazing journey for a Bird’s eye view
Mam Tor is a 517 m (1,696 ft) hill near Castleton in the High Peak District of England. This is the beautiful setting along the way.
I was on a mission to soar the air in a tandem hang glider with the charismatic Peak Airsports instructor Mark Bosher.
To say I was a little nervous would be an understatement, but after seeing Mark carry the whole glider pack up Mam Tor, I had no doubts this mini superman could deliver the goods. After the preliminary flight checks and customary ‘Do’s and Don’ts, I felt the urge to hold onto my new found man of steel like a barnacle to a ship, but alas, if he was to steer the glider, I knew this wouldn’t be a good idea.
Before I knew it we were on the count down for stepping forward, ‘One’, Mark called out, we both took a left foot step forward, ‘Two’ and I didn’t feel the earth with my right foot, we were up and flying, floating from left to right like a weightless piece of paper.
Many thanks to Mark for making my hang gliding experience truly a memorable occasion as I know sometimes when we are in expert company, watching them doing their expert thing, it can be quite easy to take it for granted the comfort and enjoyment they are actually providing….All the best Peak Airsports Mark Bosher.
