Inspire to Enterprise
Money, possessions, power, property and wealth don’t move me. Some time ago I thought that if I could have some or all of those things, I would be the happiest man alive. As time marched on, these thoughts soon became obsolete. I started to notice more and more what people around me had done. The men and women in my community that always seemed to be working at helping someone else, they seemed to have little time for themselves and were always talking about their next community project, at first I thought that they had nothing else better to do with their time, or perhaps they had no family or real friends, but this could not have been further from the truth.
These people were very productive with their time, they were making life better for other people, by investing in them, much the same way a business person would invest in a company. I really didn’t get it for a long time, I dismissed them really, and then I realised something. Investing your time, energy and efforts in to other people made things happen, small things mostly, but they eventually gave way to larger events that began to shape the way we are and what we do.
Without knowing, they were the subliminal creators of the modern day social enterprise concept, identifying a need, servicing that need and developing growth in the communities. They judge themselves only by the end product of their services and seek not adulation for works completed. Often they are overlooked, often they are knocked back and their work torn to shreds, but still here they stand as invisible as ever(thats the way they like it) and looking to their next community project.
So to all the selfless, invisibles, I salute you as the unsung heroes in our communities.
