Bollywood / Indian cinema into the future
Although some Bollywood films fall foul of the mark in terms of acting, there are some that are excellent in their delivery i.e. Mission Kashmir, Lagan, Devda, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Mohabbatein. I am by no means a Bollywood buff more someone that likes to understand the whys and wherefores of quality as depicted by good acting from such as Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee. If they can put me in a good mood and take me to a dream world then there job is done as far as I am concerned, I say this because the Asian culture is not in my blood, but in some part I feel it is about time that Bollywood got its recognition in the Western world.

However, I can see why this recognition may not be forth coming , I refer to the old mainstream western movies where if I looked at them now I would think the acting, clothes and scenery were all a little stilted and wooden.
It’s not necessarily that the acting, clothes or scenery were bad, but it was reflective of acting, clothing and scenery that was in line with the style of the times. Like the western movies of old to the Bollywood films of our modern age, quality seems to be achieved by moving forward from lessons learned and really selling a truer depiction of their respective cultures to which its people can aspire to and feel they can realistically achieve.
That said I admire the attempts of Bollywood to push forward and be a force to be reckoned with, but not at the expense of its own identity which is rich with cultural originality. I really do believe others have a lot to learn from Bollywood rather than the other way around, but are Bollywood seeing it like this or are they content to follow rather than be leaders of their own culture?
