Raising funds for children and young people in South Africa and the World

April 7, 2010 by The Journey man

I wholeheartedly believe in the ideal of wanting to find a way of bringing together charitable organisations interests to explore how best to support each other in an effective and efficient way to enable a wide variety of cultures to work together in order to make a big difference to the issues that matter. There is no doubting that Charities working together would help to maximise their output. As individual entities I know some of us have gone through fund raising projects through the years, completing such things as shaving heads, hiking distances, extreme events, auctions etc. Some of us have really put our hearts and souls into helping support a cause that we deem important and no matter what, fund raising has always been and will always be a part of funding a project or a cause.

After all the blood sweat and tears of achieving your charitable donations i.e. walking from Manchester to South Africa, swimming and rowing across the seas/channels,it is at this point that I raise the question of ‘Do we know where our hard earned fund raising money actual goes once we hand it over to the charitable organisation?’

Do we have cause to be concerned when we are informed of nightmare stories such as the ones listed below?

Cracks in Mellons South African charity’

An executive assistant of a Los Alamitos youth crisis shelter was sentenced to four years in state prison for embezzling more than $435,000 from a shelter and splurging on an extravagant personal lifestyle,

Thieves steal hundreds in charity money

On a small scale I have just recently completed the Sports Relief Leeds 1 miler, the day was absolutely fantastic and was so proud to cross the finish line and get my medal which I deem my badge of honour for thinking about others and contributing towards their betterment of life. I guess I will never know what really happened to the sponsorship that I and so many others collected, but maybe its good enough to just know that we sent good thoughts and wishes for those in need?

Who has responsibility for changing cultures?
